Human being is a social animal. Hence, social skills play prime role in helping the child dev-elop healthy, consistent and fruitful relationships in life. For this a child’s character needs to be moulded in a way that he understands the importance of social skills and genuinely becomes comfortable and fond of interacting with people.
Understand a child’s psyche: No child is born with qualities of sharing and love. In fact, children are possessive by nature and sharing their toys or attention is not easy for them. So don’t ever label or criticize your child for being selfish, instead guide him towards the desired behaviour.
Develop respect for other people’s feelings: The first step comes by making your child understand that each person has feelings and they should be respected. This quality is best acquired when the child himself is treated with respect and his feelings are given importance.
Motivate your child: Nothing works like self motivation. Show your child benefits of cooperating, talking politely, pleasing others. When your child realizes how he is being loved and liked, has so many friends, is appreciated, he’ll automatically be inclined to act in the desired way.
Give opportunities of interaction: Take your child to the park, to the places of friends or relatives, take him often to parties or family get-togethers, organize small parties of children at home. The more your child gets to meet people, the more he’ll become comfortable and begin to enjoy the company of people.
Give confidence to your child: Don’t ever pressurize your child to make friends or interact with guests. Respect his choice of friends or the fact that he prefers a small group rather than lots of friends. Give your child unconditional love, loads of appreciation and keep gui-ding him without expecting instant results so that he becomes confident to meet and express in front of people.
