Problems, stress, breakdowns are a part of life. But when they start reflecting in the behaviour of parents, it can leave everlasting effect on the child’s impressionable mind. Don’t linger with your bad mood if you want your child to develop a happy personality.
Remember, you can’t fool your child: Parents feel that they are keeping their tensions to themselves, but it’s a fact that even babies can sense the strain in the air. Directly or indirectly,
your anxieties will be transferred to your child.
Realize, you can’t be an effective parent in a bad mood: Your upsets may make you hit or talk harshly to your child. If not that, you may ignore the child by not responding and even if you respond, the lack of enthusiasm will influence the bond between you and your child.
Be careful, your upsets may alter your image in his eyes: Your child may begin to withdraw from you, observing your ‘stressed out’ attitude and frequent ill temper. He may stop sharing with you, start feeling insecure and eventually become negative in approach towards life.
Reflect, your mood swings will affect his emotional strength: Your child grows up watching your every move. You being an idol for him, the way you handle the ups and downs in your life will determine how well he manages his own life.
Go, talk to your child: Don’t expect to be always in a pleasant mood. But whenever you are in a low state of mind, tell your child you are upset and you’ll feel better tomorrow instead of corner yourself from your child. Talk, share and laugh with your child so that your bad mood doesn’t affect the beautiful relationship with your child.
